DFA TELLS FILIPINOS IN US SOUTHEAST TO PREPARE FOR TROPICAL STORM
28 May 2018 - The Department of Foreign Affairs has advised members of the Filipino Community along the southeastern coast of the United States, particularly in the states of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi, to take the necessary precautions as tropical storm Alberto is expected to hit landfall today.
The DFA, through the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., told Filipinos in the northern Gulf coast to stay informed, take extra precaution, and heed the warnings of local authorities as Alberto makes its final approach towards the northern Gulf Coast late in the Memorial Day weekend.
The Embassy said there are 179,647 Filipinos in the areas that could be affected broken down as follows: 151,376 in Florida; 14,409 in Tennessee; and 8,244 in Alabama; and 5,683 in Mississippi.
The Embassy said Alberto, which is the first named storm of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season, is expected to bring in heavy rainfall. The Filipino Community has been advised to prepare for flash floods, storm surges, strong winds, and tornadoes.
