DFA Extends Condolences to Families of 4 Filipinos Killed in Accidents in Saudi Arabia, Canada

19 June 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs today extended its condolences to the families of four Filipinos who died in two car accidents in Saudi Arabia and Canada that left six other Filipinos injured.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of our kababayan who perished in the recent road accidents in Saudi Arabia and Canada,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano said.

“We also pray for the speedy recovery of those injured in these tragedies,” the Secretary said, adding the DFA will provide the necessary assistance to the families of the victims, including in the repatriation of their remains.

In Saudi Arabia, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah reported that two Filipino workers were killed and three others injured in the 13 June accident near the southwestern city of Jizan.

Consul General Edgar Badajos said the victims were on their way to buy food for their Eid il Ftr celebration when a sports utility vehicle driven by a Saudi national rammed the van they were in.

In Canada, the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary reported the deaths of a Filipino couple from Lethbridge, Alberta, in an accident along the Queen Elizabeth II Highway on June 10.

Consul General Gilberto Asuque said the accident also injured the three children of the fatalities who were on board a vehicle that slammed into an overpass pillar near Highway 27, about 110 kilometers from Calgary. END
