DFA Promotes Employment of More PWDs in Government with “May 1% Ka Ba?”

HRMO May One Percent Ka Ba

MANILA 05 July 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs took part in the “May 1% Ka Ba?” advocacy campaign spearheaded by The Asia Foundation and Unilab Foundation, which aims to promote persons with disabilities’ access to employment in the public sector to the sector.

The campaign, which includes narratives of PWDs working in the government service and their colleagues, encourages government agencies and local government units to make their offices more inclusive.

The campaign’s eponymous tagline “May 1% Ka Ba?” makes references to the observance of Labor Day every 1st of May and Republic Act No. 10524 expanding the positions reserved for PWDs, which mandates government agencies, offices or corporations to reserve at least one percent of their labor force for the differently abled.

The DFA currently employs 45 PWD personnel which constitutes 1.55 percent of its total workforce, exceeding the required one percent prescribed by RA 10524.

The campaign is endorsed by the National Council for Disability Affairs, Department of Labor and Employment, and the Civil Service Commission, with support from the Australian Embassy in the Philippines.
