PH Prepares for the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration
MANILA 18 July 2018 — Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Lou Y. Arriola led the inter-agency consultation meeting last 03 July 2018 to prepare for the last round of negotiations for the inter-governmental negotiations on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM).
Following the guidance of President Rodrigo R. Duterte and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano, the Philippines continues to be actively engaged and lead several countries in ensuring that the human rights of migrants and the protection of their welfare are embedded in the GCM.
Undersecretary Arriola heads the inter-agency Philippine Negotiation Team to the GCM in New York City, U.S.A.
The consultation meeting was attended by migration and labor experts from National Economic and Development Authority, Commission on Filipinos Overseas and Department of Labor and Employment, and its attached agencies International Labor Affairs Bureau, National Reintegration Center for OFWs, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
