DFA: No Filipinos Affected In Lombok Earthquake
01 August 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) today reported there were no Filipinos among the casualties of the 6.4-magnitude earthquake that hit East Lombok in Indonesia in the morning of July 29.
The DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta checked on the condition of some 250 Filipinos in Lombok and surrounding areas and reported that none of them were among the dead and injured.
The DFA said the Embassy also extended its condolences to the families of those who perished in the earthquake.
Ambassador to Indonesia Leehiong Wee said Indonesian authorities continue to provide aid to the victims.
The Indonesian National Disaster Mitigation Agency reported that as of July 30, there are 14 fatalities and more than 1,000 houses damaged by the tremor. A Malaysian citizen was among the fatalities.
Despite the damage, Ambassador Wee said that the situation remains normal with infrastructure still functioning and flights from the Lombok International Airport operating as scheduled. END
