Update No. 2 on Hurricane Lane
25 August 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) continues to check on the situation of the 375,000-strong Filipino Community in Hawaii as it monitors the progress of Hurricane Lane.
There are no Filipinos reported to have been severely impacted by the hurricane based on the latest report received from the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu.
Consul General Joselito Jimeno said the Consulate General is in touch with leaders of the Filipino Community in the islands of Kona, Hilo, Maui, and Kauai, and has been told there are no Filipinos so far reported to have been affected by the flooding and landslides in the affected islands. Authorities, however, relocated an undetermined number of Filipino and other foreign fishermen from Pier 7 in Honolulu to a safer area on land.
Although Hurricane Lane has been downgraded to a Category 1 storm, the Consulate General has advised the Filipino Community to remain vigilant. END
