4th Philippines-Brazil

Bilateral Consultation Mechanism Meeting

Makati City, Philippines

The Republic of the Philippines (Philippines) and the Federative Republic of Brazil (Brazil) convened the 4th Philippines - Brazil Bilateral Consultation Mechanism Meeting in Makati City, Philippines, on 03 September 2018. The Philippine delegation was headed by H.E. Enrique A. Manalo, Undersecretary for Policy of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, while the Brazilian delegation was headed by H.E. Henrique da Silveira Sardinha Pinto, Undersecretary-General for Asia and the Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.

The consultations were held in a constructive and cordial atmosphere. A wide range of important issues was covered, including political developments in the respective countries; trade and investment; agriculture and bioenergy; judicial and technical cooperation; and combating human and drug trafficking.

The Philippines and Brazil discussed significant regional and global developments and how both countries could take advantage of opportunities that these developments present.

The Philippines and Brazil expressed deep satisfaction at the growing and expanding bilateral relations. Both sides recognized the importance of convening regular bilateral consultations to ensure sustained closer collaboration in the context of regional and international cooperation.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of the Bilateral Consultation Mechanism in providing a platform for exchanging views on issues of mutual concern, reviewing the implementation of existing agreements and projects and exploring new initiatives aimed at expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation.

Both sides agreed to convene the next Bilateral Consultation Mechanism in Brazil at a mutually convenient date in the near future. END
