Consular Office La Union Joins in Q3 National Simultaneous Shake Drill 2018
LA UNION 11 September 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs Consular Office (CO) in La Union, once again showed its continued support and participation towards disaster preparedness and response at its officers and staff participated in the 3rd Quarter of 2018 National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on 16 August 2018 at CO La Union’s office in Manna Mall.
They were joined by 86 passport applicants who were already inside the CO’s premises for the processing of their passports.
CO La Union’s Officer-In-Charge Estellita V. Casuga invited the passport applicants to participate in the activity with the Philippine National Police – San Fernando that monitor and evaluate the drill, which lasted for about 16 minutes.
She emphasized the importance of the drill which can be applied wherever they maybe and gave safety tips on what to do and how to respond effectively when an earthquake occurs in order to avoid injury and death.
CO La Union’s Administrative Officer, Michael John C. Angeles delivered a brief discussion and demonstration of the essential DUCK, COVER and HOLD maneuver and asked all the applicants to imitate while this CO’s personnel simultaneously demonstrated to them the technique.
At exactly 2:00 p.m., alarm sirens sounded off through this CO’s PA system to simulate an earthquake event, which lasted for one minute.
OIC Casuga once again thanked the passport applicants for their cooperation and hoped that the exercise will instill a sense of readiness in everyone. END
