PH Rallies for Global Support for Migration Governance
GENEVA 31 October 2018 —The Philippines underscored its commitment to support the effective implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration in a breakfast meeting with representatives of members states of the Colombo Process and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) during a breakfast meeting held in Geneva on the sidelines of the Second 2018 International Dialogue for Migration on 08-09 October 2018.
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Sarah Lou Y. Arriola shared the discussions and outcomes learned of the of the “Manila Conference on The Future of Migration”.
The Philippines hosted the Manila Conference on global migration governance, human rights, and sustainable development in the context of the Global Compact for Migration held on 14-15 August 2018 in Manila.
Present during the meeting were representatives of the Missions to the United Nations of Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, Viet Nam, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
The text of the Global Compact was finalized in New York in July 2018, and will be adopted during the Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration scheduled on 10-11 December 2018 in Marrakech, Morocco. END
