MANILA 07 March 2019 — Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin Jr. received Turkish Ambassador-designate to the Philippines Artemiz Sümer in a courtesy call held at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on 27 February 2019.

Secretary Locsin welcomed Ambassador-designate Sümer to the Philippines, and noted that 2019 is a momentous year as it marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Turkey.

The Secretary also thanked Mme. Sümer for the Turkish Government’s role in the Mindanao Peace Process, notably as Chair of the Independent Decommissioning Body and development assistance through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

For her part, Ambassador-designate Sümer thanked Secretary Locsin and expressed her optimism in working with the DFA in enhancing bilateral cooperation in the mutually beneficial areas of trade and investment, education, agriculture and defense.

Ambassador-designate Sümer will present her credentials to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte this month. END
