PASAY CITY 15 February 2019 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) conducted a diplomatic briefing on 15 February 2019 to apprise the members of the diplomatic corps on the developments in the implementation of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL).

Led by DFA’s Office of the Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns (OUCSCC), the event gathered subject-matter experts from the Bangsamoro Transition Commission, Commission on Elections, and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process to discuss the legal framework of the BOL and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, provide an account of the conduct and results of the plebiscite, and shed light on the way forward and some of the looming challenges facing the implementation of BOL.

In his welcome remarks, OUCSCC Acting Head of Office Roy B. Ecraela said the successful conduct of the BOL plebiscite is an encouraging demonstration of the vibrancy of the Philippines’ democratic institutions. He added that with the plebiscite results showing overwhelming support for it, the BOL holds the potential for the institution of meaningful and enduring peace in Mindanao.
