MEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS 22 March 2019 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) sent a batch of 30 officers to attend a pilot Leadership Program in Advanced Diplomacy (LPAD) from 18 to 22 February 2019 at the The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.
The five-day LPAD, which was designed specifically for the DFA, offered a combination of knowledge- and leadership-based sessions, with robust discussions on a wide range of issues—from 21st century irregular warfare to geopolitics in east asia to the law of the seas. It also included simulation exercises on negotiations, media handling and diplomatic persuasion.
This initiative was made possible by the DFA’s Human Resources Management Office, which is mandated to develop the competencies of foreign service personnel through learning and development programs.
The Fletcher School has a distinguished history as the oldest institution of International Relations in the U.S. One of its specialties is the professional training and development of diplomats from around the world. END
