PH Attends 21st ASEAN-India Senior Officials’ Meeting in New Delhi

NEW DELHI 26 April 2019 — Recent developments in India, the Southeast Asian region and Asia as a whole, as well as follow through activities on recent agreements were highlights of the 21st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-India Senior Officials’ Meeting (AISOM), hosted by India in New Delhi on 11-12 April 2019.
Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary for ASEAN Affairs and ASEAN-Philippines National Secretariat Director-General Junever M. Mahilum-West represented Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Policy Enrique A. Manalo at the meeting.
India and Thailand co-chaired the meeting, and they were joined by Senior Officials from ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General for the Political-Security Community.
The meeting discussed recent developments in India, ASEAN and the region, and followed through the priorities identified at the ASEAN-India Informal Breakfast Summit in Singapore on 15 November 2018.
The ASEAN-India SOM discussed cooperation on regional connectivity, maritime and economic areas, trade, investment, finance, science and technology, information and communication technology, disaster management, climate change, and non-traditional security challenges such as terrorism, transnational crimes and cybersecurity.
The ASEAN Senior Officials also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern such as the regional security architecture and major power relations. END
