28 February 2014 - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through the Office of the Undersecretary for International Economic Relations launched the Cocktail and Reception, “Lifting Philippine Spirits” at the Bulwagang Apolinario Mabini, DFA on February 13. The event is part of DFA’s economic and cultural diplomacy initiatives by showcasing the different locally produced wines and liquors which are part of Philippine culture. It is an effort to strengthen the market share of the Philippine spirits not only locally, but more importantly, in the international markets.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario welcomed the guests to the event. Ms. Chelo B. De Pedro and Mr. Ferdie Chanpongco, the representatives of local distilleries and wineries, also delivered brief remarks.
Present during the event were members of the diplomatic corps, other government officials and representatives, members of the media, well-known private company owners, and DFA heads and personnel.
The event featured different wines and liquors from the famous Philippine lambanog to tropical wines made only in the Philippines. Pino Resto and Bar was tapped to serve Filipino hor d’oeuvre. First Five banda, a local band, performed original Pinoy music (OPM) in line with the event’s theme of promoting Philippine culture.
Exhibitors from large to small scale distilleries came from different provinces of the Philippines to showcase their products. Guests were given a chance to sample the products from the following distilleries and wineries: Distelleria Limtuaco, Rachebeli Inc., Dielle’s Honey Wine, Don Roberto’s Mango and Coffee Wine, Dory’s Distillery, St. Ambrose Industries Ltd., WSG Home Winery, Sjb Liberica Ent., Vino de Coco, Go Green Rescue, Distelleria Limtuaco, Global Flavours, Yulaik and Philippine Fire Water. Outside the event venue, participating distilleries were alloted a selling area. Madame Del Rosario was one of the guests who appreciated the industry and bought different products.
The event introduced the local wine and liquor industry to both local and international consumers, with the objective of facilitating trade and investment between suppliers and potential buyers. This event also aimed to encourage Philippine Embassies and Consulates abroad to use more Philippine wines and liquors during diplomatic functions and official events. END
