PH Does Away with Red Ribbons on Authentication Certificates

17 June 2019 — In line with its efforts to streamline the authentication process for public documents, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is no longer affixing red satin ribbons on authentication certificates.

The DFA started issuing Apostille certificates without the red ribbon when the Apostille Convention entered into force for the Philippines on 14 May 2019.

The Apostille replaced the Authentication Certificate (often referred to as “Red Ribbon” by the public) as proof of authentication for public documents to be used abroad. Philippine Embassies and Consulates General stopped affixing the red ribbon to certificates of authentication and acknowledgment beginning 15 June 2019.

The Apostille Convention cuts down the procedure for the processing and use of foreign public documents, which helps facilitate cross-border trade, investment and personal relations. This is particularly beneficial for the millions of Filipinos who need to present Philippine public documents abroad and to use foreign documents in the Philippines. END
