DFA CO La Union Joins 2nd Quarterly Meeting on Intl Migration, Development in Region I

LA UNION 26 July 2019 — Department of Foreign Affairs Consular Office (DFA CO) in La Union, represented by Officer-In-Charge Estellita V. Casuga, joined the second quarterly meeting of the Sub-Committee on International Migration and Development (SCIMD) in Region I at the Conference Hall of the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office (DOLE-RO) I in San Fernando last 04 July 2019.
Presiding the meeting with the 27 member-agencies was DOLE Assistant Director Honorina Dian-Baga.
OIC Casuga presented the SCIMD’s Work Plan for CY 2019, which includes the formulation of policies to support the implementation of the migration and development component of the Philippine Development Plan and Regional Development Plan 2017-2022, capacity building and networking and linkaging, was likewise presented. The SCIMD Accomplishment Report for 2018, including the DFA’s programs, policies and services for Filipino migrants was also presented.
During the meeting, the Harmonization of Migration and Development Policies and Programs on the three phases of migration was presented by Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Family Welfare Officer Khristian Paul Maglaya. The reports on DFA’s Certification of Compliance of Countries and the Welfare Assistance to OFWs affected by calamities or incidents are also highlighted.
As recommended by OIC Casuga, the Sub-Commitee agreed during the meeting to issue a resolution to mobilize the local government units particularly the barangay officials, youth leaders and civil society to strengthen the government’s campaign against illegal recruitment and trafficking in person.
