SECRETARY LOCSIN MEETS JAPANESE FOREIGN MINISTER AT AMM SIDELINES
03 August 2019 — Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr., and Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono held a bilateral meeting over dinner on the latter’s invitation, on 2 August 2019, at the sidelines of the 52nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting/Post Ministerial Conference (AMM/PMC), to continue their discussions on priority bilateral cooperation initiatives and issues.
Foreign Minister Kono reiterated Japan’s commitment to supporting the Philippines’ development agenda, through official development assistance (ODA) both under the Build Build Build framework and the transition to the Bangsamoro government.
For his part, Secretary Locsin thanked Japan for its unrivalled record in providing support for PH in all areas, and for its reliability as a partner.
It was Secretary Locsin’s third meeting with his Japanese counterpart in eight months. Secretary Locsin hosted one in Davao City on 10 February 2019. The two again met in Tokyo on 29 May 2019, as the Secretary joined President Rodrigo Duterte on his visit to Japan to attend the 25th Nikkei International Conference on the Future of Asia. END
