Secretary Locsin Receives Outgoing Danish Ambassador

MANILA 29 August 2019 – Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. (left) received Danish Ambassador Jan Top Christensen (right) as the latter concludes his assignment as Danish Ambassador to the Philippines on 14 August 2019.

During the call, Secretary Locsin acknowledged the work of Ambassador Christensen towards the enhancement of Philippines-Denmark bilateral relations and partnership through exchanges of high-level visits and more active trade, economic, tourism, maritime, and cultural cooperation.  These efforts culminated in the establishment of the biennial Philippines-Denmark Bilateral Consultations, which had its inaugural meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark in April 2018. 

Secretary Locsin further conveyed that the Philippines looks forward to working with the new Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, and Danish Ambassador-designate Grete Sillasen. 

For his part, Ambassador Christensen said that the ongoing negotiaions on a memorandum of understanding on tourism cooepration as well as possible future cooperation in health and in defense augur a bright future for bilateral relations.

Ambassdor Christensen is currently working on the establishment of a museum on the Vietnamese boat people in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, and will continue his ties with the Philippines even after he leaves later this month.  From 1987 to 1990, Ambassador Christensen was the head of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Palawan that oversaw the operation of the Vietnamese refugee camp in Palawan.
