Secretary Locsin Receives ITLOS President
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. (right) hosted a luncheon meeting for International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) President Jin-Hyun Paik at the Grand Hyatt Manila in Taguig City on 22 August 2019.
President Paik was in the Philippines to attend the 7th Biennial Conference of the Asian Society of International Law on 22-24 August 2019, where he served as panelist in the plenary session themed, “International Law as Shaped by Asian Judges and Lawyers – What Do We Bring to the Table?”.
During the luncheon meeting, the two officials exchanged views on the work of the Tribunal and the current trends and developments in the law of the sea.
After the luncheon meeting, President Paik delivered a keynote speech at a special forum on “The Role of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in the Settlement of Disputes Related to the Law of the Sea: Current Trends and Other Developments.”
The forum, jointly organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs, UP College of Law, and UP Institute for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea, was held at the University of the Philippines’ BGC Campus and attended by senior government officials from various maritime agencies, members of the academia and think-tanks, lawyers, and law students.
