DFA Signs Condolence Book for Late Indonesian President

PHOTO: Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Strategic Communications and Research Ernesto C. Abella signed the Book of Condolences for the late former Indonesian President Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs at the Indonesian Embassy in Manila on 17 September 2019. 

“On behalf of the Filipino people, I extend profound and heartfelt condolences to the people of Indonesia on the passing of President Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie. An exemplary public servant, President Habibie’s leadership ushered in an era of stability and reform from a state of restlessness.  His contributions and dedicated service to his country will be engraved in the hearts of the people and live on in the proud history of Indonesia.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this time of mourning,” Undersecretary Abella's message read.

The former President, who served from 1998 to 1999 and led Indonesia into a period of reform and transition to democracy, passed away on 11 September 2019 in Jakarta at 83 years of age. He was laid to rest on 12 September 2019.
