LA UNION 17 October 2019 – The Department of Foreign Affairs Consular Office (DFA CO) in La Union, represented by Information Officer Christian Kelvin C. Gonzales and Records Officer Tephanny T. Madrid, participated in the 11th leg of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Multi-Sectoral Roadshow and Freedom of Information (FOI) Campus Caravan on 04 October 2019 at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University Mid La Union (DMMMSU MLUC), City of San Fernando, La Union.
Representing the Office of the Provincial Government of La Union, on behalf of Governor Francisco Emmanuel R. Ortega III, was Vice Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega. He cited that in as much as we uphold the integrity and security of crucial government information, we also adhere to the principles of transparency, as manifested by our commitment in the Freedom of Information program of the administration.
PCOO Undersecretary and Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) Executive Director Jose Joel Sy Egco discussed the importance of safeguarding press freedom and highlighted how the Duterte Administration actively supports this through the creation of PTFoMs to maintain a safe press environment in the country. PTFoMS published a handbook to advise media professionals on precautionary measures to ensure their safety during coverage.
PCOO Assistant Secretary Kristian R. Ablan emphasized that it is our constitutional right to access information about the government for the public to make better decisions. END
