DFA Brings Home 26 Filipinos from Jordan as Christmas Season Approaches
06 November 2019 — Twenty-six (26) distressed Filipino workers from Jordan returns to the country today just as the Christmas season approaches.
The group of 26, including a minor, was welcomed by the representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs at the airport. The group was also accompanied by an ATN Officer from the Philippine Embassy in Amman, in keeping with the policy of assisting repatriated Filipinos every step of the way.
"We are more than happy that we were able to bring home our fellow Filipinos just as the Christmas season begins. We stand ready to bring them home to their families," DFA Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola said.
Through its ATN fund, the DFA shouldered the transportation expenses of the group. The Department also provided cash assistance to help the repatriates with their most basic needs.
This is the first batch of Filipinos who availed of the Amnesty Program, the second this year, offered by the Jordan government. During the March-August 2019 amnesty, 297 OFWs were repatriated using the ATN funds.
As of July 2018, Jordan is home to some 44,941 Filipinos, about 20,470 of whom are engaged in household service.
