DFA CO La Union Participates in 4th Quarter Regional Halal Sub-Committee Meeting

LA UNION 13 December 2019 – The Department of Foreign Affairs – Consular Office in La Union (CO La Union) participated in the fourth Quarter Regional Halal Sub-Committee meeting held at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Regional Office-1 Conference Room, San Fernando City on 15 November 2019.
CO La Union Signing Officer Grace M. Bañez and Information Officer Christian Kelvin C. Gonzales participated in the said meeting with other 32 representatives from Regional Line Agencies (RLAs), Muslim Community, Al-Huda Center La Union and Private Sector Representatives (PSRs).
The meeting discussed the sharing of insights on Halal and presentation of member-agency’s initiatives and plans on Halal including firmed-up Sub-Committee’s Action Plan CY 2020.
Solaima Gonting of the Muslim Community in La Union lectured on the fundamentals of Halal including the problems the Muslim brothers and sisters are facing in Region 1. Also, Mr. Omar Eguia and Mr. Aslani A. Elias also enlightened the body on the scope of halal and identification of halal foods.
Moreover, DTI, Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Agriculture (DA), and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Reources (BFAR) presented their respective initiatives and plans on Halal. The Muslim Community representatives requested that future government projects involving halal foods should be discussed to the sub-committee for more intensive promotion of the same.
