DFA, IOM Mark International Migrants Day 2019
MANILA 21 December 2019 - The Department of Foreign Affairs, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), marked this year's International Migrants' Day on 16 December 2019 with a Film Showing and a Diplomatic Reception.
The Film Showing, held at the Elpidio Quirino Hall, featured the Philippines' highest grossing film of all time, "Hello, Love, Goodbye". It was a love story between two Filipino workers and their struggles in their attempt to reconcile their personal dreams, ambitions and careers with their love for each other in Hong Kong.
Students from De La Salle University, College of Saint Benilde, Miriam College, University of the Philippines, and Ateneo de Manila University came to support the activity.
The students also had the opportunity to interact with Star Cinema representatives who were part of the production team.
To cap the celebration, a Diplomatic Reception followed in the evening at the Bulwagang Apolinario Mabini which was hosted by Undersecretary for Administration Eduardo Malaya and IOM Chief of Mission Ms. Kristin Dadey.
Ambassadors, Embassy Representatives, International Organization representatives, high ranking Philippine government officials, and members of the Civil Society organizations were among those in attendance.
On 18 December 1990, the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families was adopted by Resolution 45/158 and opened for signature by the UN General Assembly.
The annual celebration highlights the contributions made by millions of migrants the world over. END
