DFA CO in General Santos City Attends Pre-Situational Analysis Validation of SAFE Seas Project

GENERAL SANTOS 10 February 2020 – The Consular Office (CO) in General Santos City attended the Pre-Situational Analysis Validation of the Safeguarding Against and Addressing Fisher’s Exploitation at Sea (SAFE Seas) project held at Greenleaf Hotel on 31 January 2020.

The two-day seminar was attended by local fishermen and representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the City Social Welfare and Development Office. The activity was aimed to enhance the awareness and knowledge of the fishermen with regard to forced labor and trafficking in persons in the fishing industry.

Acting Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Helen Grace A. Tabora was invited to give an overview to the participants about the DFA’s functions on the cases of undocumented fishermen in Indonesia, DFA’s Legal Basis and process on the repatriation of the apprehended fishermen. END
