DAVAO 06 January 2020 — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Mindanao, in collaboration with DFA Consular Office Davao, held a commemorative event on 27 December 2019 on the occasion of the 123rd Death Anniversary of Philippine National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal with the theme “Jose Rizal: Huwaran ng Pilipino sa Ika dalawampu’t Isang Siglo.”
In the morning, a simple program started with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and Panunumpa sa Watawat ng Pilipinas. It was followed by the laying of flowers, video presentation on the Life of Jose Rizal, and group singing of “Ako’y Isang Pinoy” by Florante. The morning program was capped with a Filipino breakfast.
In the afternoon, DFA Mindanao and Davao Consular Office personnel gathered for a film viewing of the “Rizal” by Cesar Montano. It was followed by a videoke of Filipino songs and a hearty dinner served later in the evening.
During the occasion, Mesdames Catherine L. Magno-Dejacto and Delza Lourdes D. Bayabao, Officers-in-Charge of DFA Mindanao and Davao Consular Office respectively, delivered messages underscoring Dr. Jose Rizal’s great love for the country and immeasurable contributions to the founding of the nation. Likewise, in their messages, they reminded everyone of the sacrifices of Dr. Jose Rizal and his courage, commitment, and patriotism who fought for our freedom through peaceful means. END
