Philippines Receives Donation from USA
PASAY CITY 11 April 2020 – Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr., together with Civil Defense Undersecretary Ricardo B. Jalad, met with the United States Ambassador Sung Kim who turned over the donation from the US Government to the Philippines on 10 April 2020.
The donation included a total of 1,250 new cots to aid COVID-19 patients in the country; of which 1,100 were designated to the Office of Civil Defense and 150 cots for the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), a facility providing critical diagnosis, treatment, and care for COVID-19 patients.
Moreover, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the US Government initially provided assistance amounting to USD 2.3 million (approximately PhP 116.47 million) on 01 April 2020. The said assistance shall be programmed for implementation through the Country Offices of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), as well as three other Philippine local health partners.
