PASAY CITY 11 April 2020 – A warm Easter Sunday awaits the 208 seafarers of MS Norwegian Jade, who arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Black Saturday evening via Emirates Airlines Flight EK 334.
Upon their arrival, the repatriates were subjected to mandatory inspection and briefing by the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ). Following the assessment made by the Department of Health-BOQ and the Bureau of International Health Cooperation (BIHC), the 208 seafarers will undergo a 14-day home quarantine.
The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi facilitated the repatriation of these seafarers in close cooperation with Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) and the repatriates’ local manning agency, CF Sharp.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) ensures the safe and successful repatriation of Filipinos in distress through close coordination and cooperation with its partner agencies — the DOH, the Bureau of Immigration (BI), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) — as well as the private sector, through a whole-of-government approach.
The DFA and its partners will continue to bring home distressed land and sea-based Overseas Filipino Workers affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic well beyond the Holy Week.
Following the arrival of these 208 seafarers, the total number of overseas Filipinos brought home through the efforts of the DFA, its Foreign Services Posts and its partner agencies, stands at 11,613. END
