PAMPANGA 19 June 2020 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office (CO) in Pampanga undertook several activities in commemoration of the 122nd Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the theme, “Kalayaan 2020: Tungo sa Bansang Malaya, Nagbabayanihan, at Ligtas”.
In lieu of the traditional reading of Philippines Independence Day messages during the ceremony, copies of the messages of the President and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs were shared among Consular Office personnel in order to reach each of them, even those who are not physically present. Only a limited number of Consular Office personnel attended the ceremony to ensure physical distancing.
Philippine Independence Day “safety items” were given to the first 50 applicants of the Consular Office. Small items such as alcohol bottles, soap, tissue packs, disposable masks, and disposable gloves were handed out to applicants. These items bear the official Araw ng Kalayaan 2020 logo and a note on COVID-19 precautionary measures at the back. These safety items symbolize the Consular Office’s modest effort towards achieving a COVID-19-free Philippines.
A trip down memory lane. Photos leading to the 1898 Philippine Independence Day were posted on the wall of Consular Office’s hallway in its public area as a reminder on how we won our independence through unity.
All Consular Office personnel were also treated with packed Filipino breakfast to welcome the working day. END
