DFA Consular Office in La Union Participates in Disaster Risk Governance in the New Normal Online Conference

LA UNION 30 July 2020 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office (CO) in La Union participated in the Virtual Town Hall on “Disaster Risk Governance in the New Normal” on 29 July 2020 via Zoom Conference.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) spearheaded the virtual town hall conference. The activity aimed to inform all stakeholders how disaster risk governance is shaping up in the new normal and how we can adapt and take part in it.

The activity was graced by the presence of the National Defense Secretary and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Chairperson  Delfin N. Lorenzana, who gave the opening remarks.

The following experts from different sectors presented during the meeting, namely: Civil Defense (OCD) Undersecretary Ricardo B. Jalad; Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Bernardo C. Florece, Jr.; Baguio City Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong; Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) President Rene “Butch” S. Meily; Center for Disaster Preparedness (CDP) Foundation, Inc. Executive Director Loreine B. Dela Cruz; and National Resilience (NRC) Manila Observatory Trustee President Ma. Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga.

Furthermore, OCD highlighted the pathway to resilience: coherent cooperation and collaboration among key actors, use of digital technology in governance, adopted systems lens in addressing challenges, and communicating risk to the public.

The activity was organized as part of the National Disaster Resiliency Month with the theme: “Sama-samang Pagsulong Tungo sa Katatagan sa Gitna ng Bagong Normal.” END
