DFA Mindanao Conducts Virtual Lecture on PH's Anti-Sexual Harassment Act

DAVAO 10 November 2020 – The Department of Foreign Affairs Mindanao conducted a Gender and Development (GAD) activity through an online lecture on Republic Act No. 7877 otherwise known as “Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995” on 04 November 2020.

The activity aimed to address gender issues, improve self-awareness and outcomes in work and personal lives of its personnel.

Ms. Lorna Barcilla-Mandin, Officer-in-Charge of the Integrated Gender and Development Division (IGDD) of the government of Davao City, discussed what constitutes sexual harassment as well as the duties and liabilities of employers in disseminating the information of RA 7877. Ms. Barcilla-Mandin highlighted as well the responsibility of the employer or the head of the work-related, educational or training environment or institution to provide procedures for the resolution, settlement or prosecution of acts of sexual harassment.

In his message, Assistant Secretary Uriel Norman R. Garibay noted that …”one of the takeaways from the lecture is the fundamental principle that respecting the human rights of everyone and upholding their dignity will help prevent sexual harassment or any forms of harassment.” END
