Secretary Locsin, new WFP Country Director to PH Brenda Barton Commit to Strengthen Partnership for Food Security in PH

PASAY CITY 01 March 2021 – Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. and newly-appointed World Food Programme (WFP) Representative and Country Director Ms. Brenda Barton committed to continue working together for food security and nutrition in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) during a courtesy call on 24 February 2021.
Secretary Locsin expressed appreciation for WFP’s support to the Philippine Government’s COVID-19 response and recovery efforts, specifically in the areas of technological and digital solutions on beneficiary registration, remote monitoring and assessment toolkits in the implementation of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) in the (BARMM). Ms. Barton reiterated WFP’s support to the Zero Hunger Task Force and South-South Cooperation for other developing countries, and affirmed the Philippines’ leadership role in expanding communications in volatile areas in emergency situations.
