PASAY CITY, 22 September 2021 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Uzbekistan convened the 2nd Bilateral Consultations virtually on 20 September 2021.
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro and Uzbekistan Deputy Foreign Minister Furkat A. Sidikov led the Philippine and Uzbekistan delegations, respectively.
During the consultation, both sides reviewed the status of ongoing trade, agriculture, investments, and multilateral cooperation; explored the potential for cooperation on interparliamentary relations, health, culture, and tourism, among other areas; discussed various regional and international issues; highlighted the importance of legal mechanisms to enhance bilateral cooperation; and agreed to further strengthen the almost three-decade bilateral relations between the two countries.
“Promoting bilateral cooperation with our partners has become more significant in these uncertain times, given the current regional and global challenges that we face because of the complicated issues brought about by the pandemic,” Undersecretary Lazaro said.
This round of consultations between the Philippines and Uzbekistan was the second one conducted since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 13 April 1992 and the conduct of the first Bilateral Consultations in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on 2-4 March 2011.
The Philippines and Uzbekistan will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations in 2022. END
