Philippines Receives COVID-19 Vaccines from Brunei

PARAÑAQUE CITY 22 October 2021 – The Philippine Government received 2,000 units of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines donated by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on 20 October 2021.
The donation is part of Brunei’s support for the Philippines' COVID-19 vaccination program. In April 2020, Brunei also provided COVID-19 test kits to the Department of Health (DOH). Brunei was among the first countries that extended assistance to the Philippines at the onset of the pandemic last year.
Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary for Human Resources Management and former Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Christopher B. Montero, Brunei Ambassador to the Philippines Johariah Wahab, as well as officials from DOH and the National Task Force Against COVID-19 welcomed the arrival of Brunei’s donation at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The Department of Foreign Affairs – Office of Asian and Pacific Affairs (DFA ASPAC) facilitated the approval and acceptance of the donation, in close coordination with the DOH and the Brunei Embassy in Manila. END
