DFA Welcomes Home 17 Overseas Filipinos From Ethiopia
Overseas Filipinos from Ethiopia arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on 12 December 2021.
PASAY CITY, 12 December 2021 — The Department of Foreign Affairs - Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs (OUMWA) welcomed the arrival of 17 overseas Filipinos comprised of 12 adults, 4 children, and 1 infant from Ethiopia via EgyptAir (Addis Ababa to Cairo) and Gulf Air (Cairo-Manama-Manila) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 this morning.
They are the first batch of repatriates from Ethiopia since the raising of Alert Level 4 (Mandatory Evacuation) due to escalating conflict in certain areas in the country. The Philippine Embassy in Cairo, Egypt facilitated their safe passage from Addis Ababa, Cairo, and Manama for their eventual arrival home in Manila.
The repatriates shall be subject to the latest quarantine protocols in place set by the IATF.
The Department is grateful to our partners in the IATF, DoH, DoTr, DoT, and DoLE for their assistance in repatriating our kababayan. END
