PH, Romania kick-off commemoration of 50 Years of diplomatic relations

MANILA, 15 February 2022 – The Philippines and Romania held a high-level virtual meeting between DFA Undersecretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro and State Secretary Cornel Feruta of the Romanian Foreign Ministry on 08 February 2022 to kick-off the commemoration activities for the 50th Anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries. The two high-ranking diplomats agreed to pursue cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, disaster risk management and international maritime law, among others. Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to the enhancement of bilateral relations, including possible in-person engagements in Manila or Bucharest when the public health situation permits.
Assistant Secretary Jaime Victor B. Ledda of the Office ofEuropean Affairs and Ambassador Frank R. Cimafranca (with residence in Budapest, Hungary) joined Undersecretary Lazaro. For the Romanian side, Director General Olivia Toderean and Ambassador Raduta Dana Matache were present.
The Philippines and Romania established diplomatic relations on 29 February 1972. There are an estimated 1,300 Filipinos in the Central European country. END
