Philippine Foreign Service Posts Get Hands-On Data Analytics Training for Economic Diplomacy

PASAY CITY, 19 July 2022 — As part of the Department’s efforts to sharpen the skills of its personnel in conducting economic diplomacy, the Office of International Economic Relations (OIER), under the Office of the Undersecretary for Multilateral and International Economic Relations (OUMAIER), launched the Economic Literacy Webinar Series on 13 July 2022. The webinar series is a three-part training program with modules on Data Analytics, Economic Research and Intelligence, and Economic Diplomacy and Promotion.
Participants came from various Embassies and Consulates in the Asia-Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa, and the Americas, as well as from other DFA Offices. A total of 226 attended the training, 163 of which were from FSPs while 63 came from the Home Office and Consular Offices.
In her welcome remarks, Assistant Secretary for International Economic Relations Gina A. Jamoralin commended DFA personnel for their work in promoting the country's economic interests. She stressed the importance of updating the skills of DFA officers and staff in data analytics and data management to better manage the plethora of available data and harness relevant information in the conduct of foreign policy. She encouraged participants to sharpen their skills in economic diplomacy and support the policy thrusts of the new administration to enhance our country's food security, climate change resiliency, and economic recovery.
The five-day lecture on Data Analytics is scheduled on July 13, 14, 15, 27, and 28, 2022 and is organized in partnership with the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute, the training arm of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). The resource speakers were Dr. Josefina Almeda, PSRTI Officer-in-Charge Ms. Pinky Reyes-Pena, and Statistical Specialist Mr. Brad Earvin Zuniga.
