PH Holds a Diplomatic Reception for the Philippine Re-Election Bid to the ITU Council

PASAY CITY 22 September 2022 - The Philippine Government held a Diplomatic Reception on 20 September 2022 for the Philippines’ re-election bid as a member of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Council for the term 2023-2026. The reception was co-hosted by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Information and Telecommunications Technology (DICT).
“The Philippines has elevated the status of the ITU as a key partner in telecommunications development through its close working relations with the ITU… It is a model country that can share its experiences with fellow developing ITU Member States in years to come,” said Acting Secretary for Foreign Affairs Jesus S. Domingo in his opening remarks on behalf of the Secretary for Foriegn Affairs Enrique A. Manalo.
On behalf of the Secretary for ICT, DICT’s Undersecretary Jocelle Batapa-Sigue stressed the importance of the Philippines’ re-election in her presentation about the ITU. In her presentation, she said that the Philippines “share the vision of the ITU to connect virtually every facet of modern life – in business, culture, or entertainment, at work and at home – which depends on information and communication technologies.”
The reception was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, senior officials from the DFA and DICT, and members of the private sector who were experts in the field of telecommunications.
The election will take place at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 in Bucharest, Romania, from 26 September to 14 October 2022. END
