President Marcos, Sri Lankan President Wickremesinghe Meet for First Time, Discuss Further Economic Partnerships

MANILA 30 September 2022 – President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. met with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe on 29 September 2022 in Manila, their first meeting since they assumed their respective offices this year.
The two leaders exchanged views on recent global events that have impacted their national economies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the situation in Ukraine. They also discussed how countries should do their part in shoring up the global economy. President Marcos said that during these times, countries should actively find ways to encourage economic growth through bilateral trade and investments, addressing supply chain issues, and partnering with like-minded countries.
President Wickremesinghe expressed hope for further interactions with the Philippines and the ASEAN region. President Marcos Jr. responded that he looks forward to strengthening the relations between the Philippines and Sri Lanka through more interaction and exchanges between the two countries.
The Sri Lankan President is currently in Manila to chair the Governor’s Business Session at the 55th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). END
