Philippines and Romania Renew Partnership at 6th Political Consultations

BUCHAREST 16 March 2023 – The Philippines and Romania recommit to deepen bilateral relations at the 6th Philippines-Romania Political Consultations on 13 March 2023 in Bucharest. DFA Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro led the Philippine delegation, while the Romanian side was headed by Secretary of State Traian Laurenţiu Hristea. 

Both countries explored ways to deepen cooperation on several aspects of Philippines-Romania relations in areas, such as political-security cooperation, maritime cooperation, economic cooperation, and education.

Both sides also exchanged views on several regional and international developments of mutual concern, including the West Philippine Sea, ASEAN-EU relations, and the situation in Ukraine. Both countries reaffirmed the importance of the international rules-based order.

Noting that the last Philippines-Romania Political Consultations was held in 2017, both senior officials agreed that the 6th Political Consultations renewed the Philippines-Romania partnership, as well as helped explore new areas of cooperation. END
