Philippines and Spain Reaffirm Enduring Ties at Senior-Level Talks

MADRID 16 March 2023 – The Philippines and Spain reaffirmed their enduring ties at the 6th Philippines-Spain Political Consultations on 10 March 2023 in Madrid. DFA Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro led the Philippine delegation, while the Spanish side was headed by Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs Angeles Moreno. 

Both sides discussed the status and the way forward on several aspects of Philippines-Spain relations, specifically the ongoing commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-Spain diplomatic relations, defense cooperation, maritime cooperation, shared interests in multilateral fora, economic cooperation, development cooperation, and people-to-people relations. 

Both sides also exchanged insights on several regional and international developments of mutual concern including the West Philippine Sea, ASEAN-EU relations, and the situation in Ukraine.

The holding of the 6th Conference on Political Consultations marks the first time that the Philippine and Spanish senior officials met in person for the Conference since the last Conference on Political Consultations, which was virtually held in 2020. END
