DFA Consular Office in Puerto Princesa Holds "Handa Ka Na Bang Mag-abroad?" Seminar

Fifty-seven (57) aspiring OFWs who attended the seminar with their Certificates of Participation with the speakers and the Head of DFA CO Puerto Princesa.

PUERTO PRINCESA 22 March 2023 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office (CO) in Puerto Princesa  conducted a seminar for Filipinos aspiring to work overseas, entitled “Handa Ka Na Bang Mag-abroad?” on 18 March 2023  in celebration of the 2023 National Women’s Month with the theme “We for Gender Equality & Inclusive Society”.

The  seminar was attended by 57 aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Briefing the OFW aspirants were officials from CO Puerto Princesa partner agencies namely, the Department of Migrant Workers - Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), City Public Employment Service Office (PESO), and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and discussed the following:

  • OWWA Membership and Benefits - OWWA;
  • Recruitment process of overseas workers, Illegal recruitment and Human trafficking – DMW (POEA);
  • Legitimate Employment opportunities for OFW aspirants – City PESO
  • Business opportunities for returning OFWs - DTI

For the DFA, CO Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Person Mr. Merwin V. Conde,  asserted that  DFA continues  to promote and protect the interest of the Filipino migrant workers in the global community, as well as  protect the rights and welfare of Overseas Filipinos.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Carolina A. Constantino, Head Consular Office  exhorted  the  potential OFWs to be confident in a foreign land as they pursue their vision, bearing in mind  Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote “No One Can make  you feel inferior without your permission” but mindful to know and respect the culture of the country which allow them to work. Ms.  Constantino also stressed the need to have a timeline for the attainment of their vision keeping in mind the value of saving their hard earned income for a profitable livelihood. END
