Philippines, Other ASEAN Members States Commence Negotiations on ASEAN Community Vision 2045

JAKARTA 27 June 2023 - Following the successful interface of the ASEAN Leaders with the High-Level Task Force on the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision (HLTF-ACV) at the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo on 10 May 2023, the HLTF- ACV commenced negotiations on the development of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 at the 8th Meeting of the HLTF-ACV held on 26-27 June 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Philippines is working with other ASEAN Member States in developing a concise and streamlined ASEAN Community Vision 2045, with the view to articulate ASEAN’s aspirations for the future based on the Core Elements of the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision, which was endorsed by the Leaders at the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 2022.

“We need to be efficient, focused, and use precise language in our ASEAN Vision,” Eminent Person of the Philippines Ambassador Elizabeth P. Buensuceso said during the Meeting.

The Philippines emphasized the importance of highlighting institutional strengthening of ASEAN in its vision, with the ability to advance ASEAN Community-building and exercise its leadership in the region and coordinate cross-pillar and cross-sectoral issues, and respond to regional and global developments, with the support of a strengthened Secretariat.

The Philippines also urged the HLTF-ACV to begin identifying and including in the discussions relevant ASEAN stakeholders in the development of the Strategic Plans or attendant documents of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.

The ASEAN Community Vision 2045 will be endorsed to the ASEAN Coordinating Council during the 43rd ASEAN Summit in September 2023. ASEAN aims to finalize the Vision statement and its Strategic Plans for adoption by ASEAN leaders in 2025. END
