Secretary Manalo to participate in ASEAN FM meetings in Jakarta
MANILA, 07 July 2023 – Philippine Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo will participate in the 56th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and Related Meetings, to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia on 11-14 July 2023.
The ASEAN Foreign Ministers are expected to discuss, with one another and with Foreign Ministers of ASEAN's partners, ASEAN's Community Building efforts, including Indonesia's priorities as ASEAN Chair for 2023 under the theme, "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth," as well as ASEAN's external relations. The Foreign Ministers are also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues.
Secretary Manalo will also highlight the Philippines' priorities in ASEAN-led bodies such as the ASEAN Plus Three (APT), East Asia Summit (EAS), and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), and in meetings with ASEAN's Dialogue Partners.
Aside from the 56th AMM, the following Foreign Minister-level meetings and engagements will also take place:
- Meeting of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Commission;
- Interface Meeting of the Foreign Ministers with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR);
- 24th APT Foreign Ministers' Meeting;
- 13th EAS Foreign Ministers' Meeting;
- 30th ARF;
- Post Ministerial Conferences (PMCs) with ASEAN's Dialogue Partners, namely: Australia, Canada, China, European Union (EU), India, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Russia, United Kingdom, and United States.
Secretary Manalo will co-chair with the EU the ASEAN-EU Post Ministerial Conference (PMC), in the Philippines' capacity as the current country coordinator for ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations.
Secretary Manalo will also hold bilateral talks with his counterparts on the sidelines of the various meetings. END
