25 August 2023 – Led by the Philippines’ Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Senior Official, incoming Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and International Economic Relations Charles C. Jose, the delegation from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) participated in the recently concluded Third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM3) held on 29 July to 21 August 2023 in Seattle, Washington, USA.
The United States of America (USA), as the host economy, has set this year’s theme as “Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All” that focuses on the “3I’s” of “Interconnected, Innovative and Inclusive” development goals.
Throughout the year, working groups in areas such as trade, energy, services, telecommunications, human resources development, and gender equality met to discuss how to move the APEC agenda forward. The SOM3 and related meetings continued to build up on past commitments in the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040, the Aotearoa Plan of Action, and the Bangkok Goals set during last year’s APEC Summit in Thailand.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos is scheduled to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) to be held on 15-17 November 2023 in San Francisco, USA, which will bring together the leaders from the 21 APEC member-economies. END
