KIDAPAWAN 26 September 2023 – In celebration of the 2023 Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANAMo), the Department of Foreign Affairs Consular Office in Kidapawan collaborated with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Kidapawan in conducting a Clean-Up Drive Activity on 15 September 2023 at the Nuangan River under the national theme, “Kapuluan, Kabuluhan, Kaunlaran” (Archipelago, Significance, and Development), and sub-theme, “Setting Sails Towards Sustainability: Ocean Science for Archipelagic Philippines.”
The activity highlighted the protection of Philippine Maritime Heritage as it aims to create a platform to address threats to the coastal and marine environment. Participants from CO Kidapawan were HCO Nadjefah B. Acampong-Mangondaya, AOV Ian Pol Fiesta, ITO Nizar Sindian, AOIV Sumaira Akmad, and AOI Menchie Espiritu.
Various barangay communities also participated in the activity to show their support and contribute to the shared goal of the community on raising awareness about maritime and archipelagic issues.
The tools (e.g., garbage bags, gloves and tongs) needed for the activity and transportation were provided by CENRO. The clean-up drive included sweeping the river banks, cutting of tall grasses, and picking up litter and wastes. The participants managed to collect tons of garbage.
CO Kidapawan extended their appreciation to CENRO Kidapawan for the assistance they provided for this activity.
The clean-up drive serves as a testament to what can be accomplished when organizations and individuals unite to make a positive impact on the marine environment. CO Kidapawan hopes that the activity will inspire further collaborative efforts and foster a sense of environmental responsibility among the public. END
