Davao Culture and Heritage Highlighted in Museum and Galleries Month 2023

DAVAO 13 October 2023 – In celebration of the Museum and Galleries Month 2023 this October, the Department of Foreign Affairs Mindanao, in coordination with Museo Dabawenyo and the National Commission on Culture and the Arts, conducted an activity entitled “Collections of Museo Dabawenyo” on October 10 in Davao City.
The activity featured the artifacts and artworks dubbed as “History of Davao City in 50 Objects” displayed at the Museo Dabawenyo, to promote awareness on Davao’s fascinating history, culture and heritage through museum photos and artifacts
DFA Mindanao Assistant Secretary Renato Pedro O. Villa visited the museum and met with Ms. Pamela R. Castrillo, Curator and University Archivist of the Ateneo de Davao University-Department of Languages, Literature and Arts, School of Arts and Sciences who explained the history and background of the objects.
The Museo Dabawenyo’s exhibition is known for its 50 objects starting from the First Peoples, the Colonial Landscape, Revolution/Resistance and Reconstruction, Resurgence and Reinvention, up to the Current Perspectives and Future Directions. More artifacts will be displayed once construction of its new building is completed. Currently, some of its artifacts are in storage due to the limited space.
The museum is located at Philippine Women’s College – Mindanao Folk Arts Museum and Studies Center (PWC-MFAMSC) along University Ave., Juna Subdivision, Matina, Davao City. It is open from Monday to Saturday at 8:30am-5:30pm. END
