DFA Pampanga Fosters Diversity with Basic Sign Language Lessons during National Children’s Month

The DFA Consular Office in San Fernando, Pampanga with the pupils of San Jose Panlumacan Integrated School during its Basic Sign Language activity and school supplies donation  in celebration of the 2023 National Children’s Month. 

PAMPANGA 30 November 2023 – Taking strides towards a more inclusive community, the Department of Foreign Affairs - Consular Office in San Fernando, Pampanga (CO Pampanga) initiated Basic Sign Language lessons and provided essential school supplies to the pupils of San Jose Panlumacan Integrated School on November 24, 2023.

Represented by Mr. Jonathan Y. Santos (resident sign language translator) and Ms. Sarah Jane G. Milloroso, the Consular Office introduced foundational sign language to 40 Grade 3 pupils, emphasizing the significance of effective communication with individuals of different abilities and fostering a community that embraces diversity. The event seamlessly harmonizes with CO Pampanga's Lingap Program, emphasizing the unique needs of diverse individuals. 

Mr. Berlin A. Tolosa, Head of the Consular Office, delivered a closing message emphasizing the intrinsic link between health, education, and a thriving community. This event reflects CO Pampanga's commitment to contributing to the holistic development of the local community, transcending language barriers.

Aligned with this year's National Children’s Month theme, "Healthy, Nourished, Sheltered: Ensuring the Right to Life For All," the distribution of school supplies and snack packs further underlines the Department's dedication to the overall well-being and development of the youth.

This impactful event forms an integral part of the Consular Office’s Gender and Development and Cultural Diplomacy program, embodying the vision of a society where diversity is celebrated, and every individual is given the opportunity to thrive.
