Philippine and Korean Foreign Ministers Exchange Letters for the 75th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

SEOUL 05 March 2024 – In commemoration of the 75th year of the formal establishment of diplomatic ties between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Korea (ROK), Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo and ROK Foreign Minister CHO Tae-yul exchanged congratulatory letters.

Philippine Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo emphasized the robust bilateral relations between the two countries and said, “I attribute the success of our relations to our shared values of freedom and democracy, our common aspirations for regional peace, stability, and prosperity, and our commitment to work closely in addressing common challenges and opportunities.”

In his letter, ROK Foreign Minister Cho recalled that “the Philippines, the first country among the ASEAN Members with which the Republic of Korea established diplomatic ties, holds a special place in the hearts of the Korean people.” The ROK FM further stated that “over the past 75 years of affinity and cooperation, our bilateral ties have thrived in all fields including, in particular, trade, development cooperation, and people-to-people-exchanges.”

Both Foreign Ministers look forward to new areas of cooperation through the elevation of relations between the Philippines and ROK to a Strategic Partnership. END
