PASAY 16 April 2024 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through the newly-renamed Office of the Undersecretary for Migration Affairs (OUMA), hosted the Inaugural Consultation on Diaspora Engagement and Management for the delegation of the Government of the Republic of India on 11 April 2024, in cooperation with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Social Security System (SSS), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), and the Overseas Filipino Bank (OFBank).

As requested by the Indian delegation, DFA-OUMA successfully convened the bilateral consultation to discuss relevant migration policies, services, and programs, including protection measures, of the Philippines and India for their own migrant workers and greater diaspora, as an additional activity related to the 4th Joint Philippines-India Consular Consultation Meeting.

The consultation likewise served as an avenue to share best practices on migration governance with one another. In a whole-of-government approach, the Philippine delegation reaffirmed its commitment to cultivate the country’s bilateral links with India. Both countries expressed support for continued dialogues and cooperation to strengthen assistance to its respective nationals abroad.

DFA-OUMA further coordinated the site visits of the Indian delegation to the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), scheduled in the afternoon, after the consultation. END
